    The instructor, associate professor of Business Administration, has a specific expertise in teaching this kind of course. The instructor's research interests include Corporate Stakeholders Responsibility Management, the adoption of the “Critical Discourse Analysis” approach to prepare and understand the corporate disclosure, Corporate Governance, Corporate Reputation Measurement and Management, Accounting History, Management History and Risk Analysis in the Banking Sector.

    Course objectives (according to the Dublin Descriptors)

    At the end of the course students are expected to:

    Knowledge and understanding

    Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the main tools of project management.

    Applying knowledge and understanding

    Make decisions to plan and manage a real project, in particular a research project. Analyze and solve the most usual management issues in projects, jointly with the management of their information-communicative aspects.

    Making judgments

    Identify project requirements in terms of time, costs, risk management, communication management.

    Evaluate the project progress and the project performance assessment.

    Communication

    Become familiar with communication tools in preparing a written report or an oral presentation related to specific aspects of communication management in projects.

    Prepare charts, graphs, and other visuals.

    Communicate their thoughts in an organized manner.

    Communicate their analysis and conclusions in a manner suitable for both specialist and non-specialist audience.

    Learning skills

    Show an understanding of the skills necessary for the successful evaluation of project decisions and project performance measurement.

    Programme:

    Project and project management: introductive elements, organization strategy and project selection

    Structure, culture, communication and project definition in project organization

    Time, costs, planning and risk management

    Project scheduling, project duration and project communication plan

    Project manager, project team and project communication: managerial approaches

    Project progress, project performance assessment, project closure.

    Teaching methodology is based on the “active learning” approach. It includes:

    - briefing, this is an “independent learning” stage, undertaken by students, either on their own or with others, mostly outside class hours. Students can acquire a first cognition on concepts, problems and possible solutions by consulting multimedia resources posted by the instructor on the e-learning platform. Students are expected to further investigate such issues and post on the e-learning platform their findings, remarks and possibly all the information sources they consider significant;

    - class discussions, during which an active debate on problems and possible solutions is stimulated by commenting on the briefing activities, also through business cases analysis, role-playing, paper analysis, video analysis, business gaming and similar ones. In this light «lecturers’ time is concerned more with identifying clear learning goals, providing support and feedback during learning, and assisting in the collation, presentation and assessment of learning outcomes than with conventional teaching» (Gibbs, 1992);

    - debriefing, is a systematically organized class activity that allows to assess the quality and effectiveness of the learning and teaching process. During the class self- evaluation sessions are available; debates about particular issues of major importance will be held. This makes prompt check and feedback actions possible, so that both students and instructor can reciprocally fine-tune their respective learning and teaching style.

    More in detail, learning self-assessment sessions will take place during the class through:

    - self-assessment sessions based on multiple-choice tests and scientific paper analysis (to assess in particular Knowledge and understanding);

    - research projects analysis or PhD thesis projects analysis (individually or in a group, to assess in particular Applying knowledge and understanding and Making judgments);

    - oral presentations (to assess in particular Communication);

    The instructor reserves the right to modify/change course requirements as circumstances dictate. For example, the instructor may wish to change the number and frequency of assessment sessions or other assignments if unexpected changes in the class schedule occur. If such a modification is needed, you will be notified by e-mail or through the course Web site.


    Student registration and relationships management:

    All information and teaching material of the course, as well as updates and alerts, are available on the Univerity’s e-learning platform. The students must subscribe to the platform section of the course to access to self-evaluation sessions and other kind of available resources.

    Furthermore, the student office hours are set on a weekly basis, and can be reserved via email and/or by appointment. During office hours the instructor can meet with students also by skype.

    Eventual student research activities in support of education

    The class provides also moments of in-depth analysis of scientific papers, aimed to focus on the matching/linking associations among the findings of such articles and concepts, problems and solution discussed during the class. Time is also dedicated to learn how to use PM tools to design research proposals.
