Online lectures with a participatory approach.The course in Advances in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics explores issues of microeconomics and macroeconomics not analyzed in the basic courses, with a particular focus on topics related to economic growth, inequality and the role of institutions. The course is aimed at both Political Science students and Economics students.Programma
Part 1, Advances in Microeconomics
A. The Economics of the Welfare State:
- Poverty, Inequality and Public Policy
- Poverty, Inequality and Welfare State in Italy
B. Externalities and public goods
- External Costs and Benefits of production and consumption
- Policies toward pollutions
- Positive externalities
- Network externalities
- Public goods and common resources
C. Uncertainty, Risk and Private Information:
- The economics of Risk aversion
- Buying, selling and reducing risk
- Private Information: what you don’t can hurt you
Part 2, Advances in Macroeconomics
D. Economic Growth:
- Comparing economics across time and space
- The sources of long-run growth
- Why growth rates differ
- Success, disappointment and failure
E. Economic Crises and Recoveries:
- The 2008 Crisis and Its Aftermath
- The COVID economic crisis

Modalità di valutazione
Learning will be assessed via students' drafting and presentation of short essays based on reading and studying materials provided by the instructor.In particular, students will be asked to:
- prepare a power point presentation (alone or in couple) on a specific topic/paper agreed with the instructor (50% of the final mark);
- prepare a short essay including the following sections: introduction to the topic, review of the literature, summary of the paper agreed with the instructor, conclusions (50% of the final mark).
