    INFO ABOUT THE COURSE

    OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

    • Knowledge and understanding: The basic information about the structure of the reproductive tract in the male and of the spermatozoon, the sperm differentiation process in the domestic animals, and the technoques for the sperm collection in domstic animals will be described. The information about the different techniques for the evaluation of spermatozoa in the different species will be described. These techniques will be divided in basic techniques and advanced techniques.
    • Applying knowledge and understanding: The students should acquire the basic information to understand the applicability in practice and to make links between these and the evaluation of the reproductive function in the male. These information will be also verified during the practice activity. The student will be stimulated to found the link between the structure of the sperm or its function and the different techniques available to evaluate this. Furthermore, the student will also applied the theoretical knowledge of the most important methods for sperm evalaution in practice during the practical sessions.
    • Making judgements: The activity during the course is targeted to stimulate the students to form a own critical knowledge on the sperm structure and function. The student will be invited to form his own opition on the methods described for the sperm evalaution, to achieve his independent ability to found and solve a technical problem.
    • Communication: During the course the students will be stimulated to create discussions with the teacher and the classroom. Peer discussions and between teacher and students about the different techniques for semen evalauton will be used to improve the ability to form and explain the stundet’s knowledge about specific items.
    • Learning skills: The student should achieve the ability to acquire the principal information from the lessiones, and to integrate them with information acquire from other sources. The ability of the student to acquire information will be costantly evaluated during the course by a close interaction. At the end of the course the student should acquire the ability to understand, critically evaluate, and perform the relevant techniques for semen evaluation in domestic animals. The student should achieve also the ability to acquire the principal information from the lessiones, and to integrate them with information acquire from other sources.

    PREREQUISITE AND PREPARATORY
    • Prerequisite: In order to understand the course content, the student should have the basic knowledge of cell structure and function.
    • Preparatory: None.
