Giuseppe Mazziotti di Celso was born in Naples the 4th of February 1967. He achieved the PhD in Chemical Engineering on April 1999 at the University of Naples “Federico II”, discussing the PhD thesis whose title is Optical diagnostic of Diesel combustion. On May 1994 he graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II”, discussing a thesis whose title is Study of atomization and vaporization of a Diesel spray.
Since November 2002 he is Assistant Professor to the Faculty of Bioscience and Agro-Food and Environmental Technology of the University of Teramo (Italy). Research topics are: Crystallization of calcium carbonate, Liquid and municipal wastewater treatments, Adsorption of elemental mercury onto active carbons, Removal of organic matter using membrane tangential filtration plant, Gasification of biomasses in fluidized bed to produce electricity, Mass and energy transfer during drying process of mate leaves in cooperation with the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Paranà (Brazil), Industrial and superficial wastewater treatment, Optimization of the transesterification reaction in biodiesel production, Design of a distillation column for the Omega 3 extraction from fish oil with Aspen Plus tool, Whey protein extraction by using membrane tangential filtration plant, in cooperation with the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics of the University of L’Aquila.
He is professor in Food Engineering (ssd ING-IND/25) at the Faculty of Bioscience and Agro-Food and Environmental Technology of the University of Teramo.INFO ABOUT THE COURSE
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE- Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of fundamentals of mathematics and physics, applied to solve engineering problems.
Knowledge of thermodynamics and fundamentals of heat and mass transfer. - Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to:
• Read and understand a process chart.
• Read and understand tables with chemical and physical properties of organic and inorganic species.
• Choose pumps, compressors and heat exchangers.
• Design a food process plant.
• Analyze material specifications to choose the one that best fits rating features.
• Evaluate energetic, economic and environmental performances of pumps and compressors, choosing the most suitable solution.
• Manage a food plant - Making judgements: The study of fundamentals of engineering permits the students to achieve self-judgement, required to professional skill.
Students are spurred to identify order of magnitude and to evaluate with critical mind results obtained. - Communication: Written exam and oral presentation spur and test student ability to sustain a technical discussion.
Students are strongly encouraged to better their English, both to understand technical literature and to sustain oral discussion. - Learning skills: Fundamentals and methodological ability acquired by the student are the essential tools for a quick understanding of company policies, in which the graduate will be involved.
Education acquired during the module train the student to continuously update his fund of knowledge, and to successfully face up the challenge of his professional career.
PREREQUISITE AND PREPARATORY- Prerequisite: Physics, Mathematics and Fluid Machines examination passed.
Alternatively recommended prerequisites are all the topics reported inside Physics, Mathematics and Fluid Machines content. - Preparatory: None
