    The course’s aims are, firstly, a strong focus on events and historiographical debates on early modern global history, secondly, the development of original research from the participating students.
    The course focuses on early modern global exchanges. While the course offers a global approach on several economic and cultural topics, geographically it will mainly focus on the areas of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

    Class 10: Territorial Powers: European and non-European Views
    Class 11: The Role of the Islands
    Class 12: Economic Institutional Migration
    Class 13: Raw Commodities and Manufactured Products
    Class 14: Trade Networks
    Class 15: Conclusion
    Students can attend the lectures online. Beginning with the fifteenth century it will mainly concentrate on economic and cultural topics until the end of the eighteenth century. Following an introductory section on the course and chronology (classes 1-2), a selected set of classes (3-8) will focus on methodological approaches and historiographical debates, while a third section (classes 9-14) will explore several case studies, mainly along the lines of institutions, commodities, and networks. A class will be devoted to the analysis of a documentary.
